Amrita – Art Tuition
Anyone out there wanting some private art tuition? Well, we’ve found the exact man to help you! Amrita trained in fine art at Central St Martin’s and decamped to Norwich in the 90’s. From his light and lovely studio just off Elisabeth Fry Road, he paints, sculpts, and teaches.
We met him on a bright Spring day. His purpose- built studio is approached via his secluded – very green – back garden, and is as perfect a creative space as you could hope for – warm (rather than drafty), welcoming, and light-saturated. It’s from here that Amrita teaches art to anyone be they beginners or adults. He’s happy to teach to order. If you crave a session on colour mixing theory, it’s yours for the having. So too is observational and abstract work drawing, painting, sculpture and printing. Recently, Amrita was CRB checked, enabling him to teach children as well as adults. Having taught children’s’ workshops at various summer camps, he’s keen to do it again! We talked over the idea of art parties – for adults or children – with an artist tutor in the background. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but – I thought – a lovely idea.
Amrita’s studio takes three people maximum, so for larger classes, he’s happy to find an alternative venue, and take things from there. For anyone with mobility issues, he’s happy to come to them.
He explains that art has been his life for over forty years, and approaching everything from a gentle Buddhist perspective, he’s happy to share what he knows, hoping to fill people with the sheer joy, optimism and deep sense of fulfilment that making art can bring.
